Alan is a prevention-focused health insurance company serving 1M+ members across 40K+ companies, with €800M+ ARR and 800+ employees. The Data Foundations team builds and maintains the data platform that powers all member care, contract, and claims decisions across the organization.
In this role, you'll be a core engineer on a small, high-leverage team within Tech Foundations. Your responsibilities include:
- Building, maintaining, and improving the Data Platform used company-wide
- Partnering with technical and non-technical colleagues across Alan to understand data needs and deliver trusted, usable solutions
- Owning and managing all data-related tools and infrastructure
- Improving developer experience for building and maintaining data pipelines
- Enabling reliable and secure access to the data warehouse for Alaners and AI agents
- Strengthening security and governance around data assets
- Defining and implementing standard data practices across the organization
- Maintaining and evolving core data infrastructure to support international expansion and growing product breadth
Key context: Alan is expanding rapidly (4 to 6 countries this year) and aims to onboard new countries in weeks, not months. Strong data foundations are critical to this expansion, helping teams navigate diverse insurance systems, regulations, and reporting requirements. The team is also building foundations for AI agents as first-class data warehouse users, addressing new concerns around security, data quality, and governance.
Core tools: Python, Airflow, Snowflake, AWS/GCP, Metabase, Terraform, dbt.
You'll work daily with the entire Data community at Alan, collaborating closely with product crews and infrastructure teams.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of experience in Data positions (early-career to highly experienced profiles welcome)
- Experience building and operating production data infrastructure: orchestration (Airflow or similar), cloud data warehouse, infrastructure as code
- Experience designing systems, tools, or libraries used by other engineers, scientists, or analysts
- Proficient in Python and SQL with high standards of rigor and precision
- Curious about AI and eager to use it thoughtfully to increase impact
- Strong listening and communication skills
- Humble, kind, collaborative, and willing to grow
- Fluent and clear in English (oral and written); French not required
- Hiring within C0-E level range
