OpenAI is seeking a Data Center Physical Security Systems Engineer to architect and deliver the physical security technology infrastructure protecting OpenAI's global AI compute footprint. This role bridges security architecture and hands-on implementation, requiring the successful candidate to define enterprise standards, design scalable security systems, and actively drive technical solutions through prototyping, integration, and deployment across diverse data center environments worldwide.
Key responsibilities include: defining physical security technology architecture strategy for AI data centers; establishing enterprise architecture standards and technical patterns for access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, identity-based access, and integrated monitoring; leading architecture and governance of physical security systems; defining security standards across diverse infrastructure deployment models; establishing standards for secure deployment, operational resilience, and lifecycle management; partnering with Security Operations, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Compliance, Legal, and external providers to ensure integrated, operationally effective systems; and providing technical leadership through architecture reviews, technology evaluations, and continuous improvement across global deployments.
Ideal candidates combine 15+ years of physical security systems architecture or infrastructure security engineering experience with proven ability to move from architecture into implementation. Required expertise includes experience building or hardening systems in hyperscale infrastructure, critical infrastructure, or large-scale data centers; designing physical security systems across multi-site or global environments; prototyping, integrating, commissioning, and resolving field issues; and partnering effectively with cross-functional engineering, construction, networking, cybersecurity, and compliance teams. Certifications in enterprise access control systems, video management systems, identity-driven access management, integrated security monitoring, or physical security infrastructure management are highly desirable. CPP, PMP, CSPM, CompTIA Security+, CISSP certifications are valued but not required. The role requires approximately 25% global travel for design reviews, deployments, and site assessments.
