Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The company's Data Center team is responsible for delivering physical infrastructure to support frontier AI model training and serving at unprecedented scale and density.
As a Data Center Electrical Engineer, you will lead the electrical design of Anthropic's rapidly expanding US data center portfolio. You'll own the complete electrical architecture from utility service entrance through to the rack, developing and maintaining reference designs and specifications that build partners work against. Your responsibilities span multiple domains:
Electrical Design & Engineering: Lead electrical design of critical infrastructure including utility interface, substations, medium/high-voltage systems, generators, UPS, switchgear, transformers, and grounding. Develop Anthropic's electrical basis of design and reference architectures for power distribution. Perform and validate engineering studies including short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, arc flash, load flow, and power quality analysis. Design data center floor layouts for newly allocated spaces, coordinating power distribution with cooling design.
Prefabrication & Modular Delivery: Drive Anthropic's strategy for prefabricated and modular electrical components—modular skids, e-houses, and prefabricated power assemblies—that compress schedules and reduce onsite labor. Design for offsite manufacture and onsite assembly, managing interfaces and temporary power sequencing. Drive standardization across sites to accelerate deployment while preserving flexibility for site-specific constraints.
Partner & Utility Coordination: Review and approve electrical design packages and submittals from build partners and MEP consultants. Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify equipment and build a diversified vendor base. Coordinate with local utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and ANSI standards. Act as Anthropic's on-the-ground electrical subject-matter expert.
You'll work cross-functionally with hardware and compute teams to translate accelerator requirements into electrical design criteria, and with supply chain to qualify vendors and create optionality in a constrained market. This role requires deep familiarity with US electrical codes, local regulatory environments, and the ability to navigate complex utility interconnection processes.
