Scale is building reinforcement learning environments—sandboxed replicas of digital work spheres powered by real operating data from companies. As Data Acquisition Lead, you will own the complete commercial motion to source this data end-to-end. This is a zero-to-one function with no existing playbook.
You will map the supply side by working backwards from where AI labs are pushing to identify which organizations hold the data for the next domain worth owning. You'll build a thesis on which domains to prioritize and in what order. You will invent novel deal structures in partnership with Scale's legal team to define how these transactions are priced and structured. You own the entire closing process from cold outreach through signature.
You'll close the loop with the technical side by becoming fluent in what makes datasets trainable and understanding what drives underlying data value. You'll start by executing deals manually, then systematize what you learn into repeatable pipelines and processes.
This role requires 5+ years in business development, corporate development, commercial strategy, or early-stage GTM. You should have a proven track record of building commercial motions that didn't exist before you arrived. Strong external relationship management, quick business judgment, and clear communication with senior stakeholders are essential. You'll operate independently while staying closely connected to cross-functional teams in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
Ideal candidates have experience in AI, data infrastructure, marketplaces, or high-growth tech; familiarity with post-training, reinforcement learning, evals, or synthetic data; and experience with data licensing, IP, or regulated data. Partnership experience with Legal and Finance on complex agreements is a plus.
