Apex manufactures satellite buses at scale for the commercial aerospace industry, enabling earth observation, communications, and other critical space-based applications. The company has raised over $500M in funding and is rapidly scaling operations. The Cybersecurity Operations Lead is a critical management role overseeing the Security Operations Center (SOC), reporting to the Director of IT & Cybersecurity. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership to protect the organization's information assets and ensure mission-critical security operations. Key Responsibilities: - Manage and develop a team of SOC analysts and engineers, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and professional development. - Oversee proactive threat detection and incident response using SIEM tools (Elastic) and other security technologies; coordinate triage, escalation, containment, eradication, and post-incident analysis. - Conduct threat hunting, malware analysis, and deep-dive investigations into escalated incidents; integrate threat intelligence to enhance detection capabilities. - Manage, tune, and optimize SOC tools including SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint security, and vulnerability management systems; develop security policies, procedures, playbooks, and automation. - Develop and track KPIs and metrics for SOC operations; prepare executive summaries on threats, incidents, and defensive posture. - Contribute to SOC strategy, resource allocation, and technology evaluations; ensure compliance with CMMC, ISO 27001, and other security standards. - Serve as primary escalation point for complex incidents; coordinate with internal teams and external partners during active threats. - Ensure 24/7 SOC coverage, including staffing and surge support; perform hands-on analysis as needed. - Assist with IT tickets and projects as needed. Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related field (Master's preferred). - 7+ years of cybersecurity operations experience, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role. - Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC GCIH, or CompTIA Security+. - Proficiency in security tools: SIEM, EDR/XDR, IDP/IDS, CASB/SASE, NESSUS, BURP SUITE, firewalls. - Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell. - Strong technical skills with understanding of networking protocols and operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux). - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; proven ability to lead teams in high-pressure environments.
