Salary: USD 125,000 - 130,000 / annual
Astronomer is seeking a Customer Reliability Engineer (CRE) to join its infrastructure-focused team responsible for the success and reliability of its managed Airflow service. This role combines infrastructure operations with direct customer engagement, focusing on the reliability of underlying cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes clusters.
Key responsibilities include responding to and resolving incidents from customers or monitoring systems, operating and maintaining the platform to ensure availability and predictability, and taking ownership of the observability platform to improve overall reliability. You will troubleshoot customer environments, participate in active incident triage, and engage in on-call rotation for weekend coverage. The role offers significant opportunity to influence product architecture and contribute improvements based on customer feedback.
You will work directly with customers across diverse industries and cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure), helping them achieve production readiness and meeting SLAs. Additional responsibilities include building and maintaining monitoring/alerting systems, creating automation for operational efficiency, enhancing customer documentation, and providing technical guidance on multi-cloud implementations.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of experience with large-scale cloud infrastructures, 3+ years with Kubernetes, production experience with at least one major cloud provider, strong Linux fundamentals, and proven ability to operate and troubleshoot distributed systems. DevOps/CI/CD experience, Python scripting, and excellent communication skills are essential. Prior customer-facing technical support experience is required.
Bonus qualifications include Site Reliability Engineer background, Kubernetes Custom Resources expertise, Azure depth, Airflow/Big Data orchestration knowledge, and Infrastructure-as-Code experience.
