OpenAI's Business Marketing team is seeking a Creative Operations Lead to manage creative resourcing, budget, and studio operations at scale. Reporting to the Head of Creative, Business, you will oversee internal teams, contractors, and agencies while balancing ongoing campaigns with rapidly emerging product launches and requests.
You will translate ambitious creative briefs and tight timelines into achievable production plans, match work to the right talent across design, copy, motion, video, and web production, and keep multiple teams aligned without sacrificing quality. The role requires inventive resource management: knowing when to add capacity, batch work, reuse assets, adjust scope, or enable self-service.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own creative resourcing and studio operations, matching skills and capacity to each project
- Build and run capacity planning and staffing systems that balance durable campaigns with fast-moving launches
- Partner with Strategy & Operations to assess creative effort, dependencies, and readiness, translating priorities into clear staffing and production plans
- Find creative solutions to resource constraints: adjust scope, add specialist capacity, sequence work, and identify asset reuse or self-service opportunities
- Partner with producers to keep delivery moving, anticipate bottlenecks, and resolve staffing and review issues
- Manage agency capacity and assignments, setting clear expectations for scope, timing, costs, and quality
- Manage the studio's creative resourcing budget, balancing agency fees, contractor spend, and internal capacity; forecast costs and surface risks early
- Protect creative focus by matching production investment to work and making tradeoffs clear
- Build and improve AI-enabled tools and workflows that accelerate briefing, production, adaptation, and self-service
- Use delivery data and team feedback to improve throughput, reduce rework, and make the studio's pace sustainable
The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week in the San Francisco office. OpenAI offers relocation assistance to new employees.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience personally owning creative operations, resourcing, or integrated production across multiple disciplines and concurrent programs
- Strong understanding of design, copy, motion, video, and web production, including skills, dependencies, and review cycles
- Track record of designing and running staffing, capacity planning, and intake systems that teams trust in fast-paced environments
- Sound judgment about when work belongs in-house, with contractors, agencies, or in self-service models—balancing speed, cost, and craft
- Experience managing agency and contractor relationships, creative budgets, and commercial tradeoffs, including fee models and rates
- Hands-on experience building and implementing AI-enabled workflows with evidence of improvements in production speed, capacity, or quality; understanding of where automation helps and where creative judgment is essential
- Ability to build trust with creative leaders, producers, and marketers; communicate tradeoffs directly; keep people aligned as priorities change
- High ownership, composure, and flexibility in ambiguous environments with a bias toward solving problems and improving team workflows
