Element Biosciences is seeking an experienced Country Manager for Japan to drive the company's commercial strategy and revenue growth in the territory. This is a full ownership role combining direct strategic account management with distributor partnership oversight for the AVITI sequencing system and consumables portfolio.
You will own the complete Japan business strategy, including revenue performance, go-to-market execution, and territory expansion. Key responsibilities include: developing and maintaining distributor relationships while directly engaging strategic key accounts, KOLs, and end users; building and executing territory business plans with regular executive reporting; coordinating sales and marketing campaigns (trade shows, seminars, KOL programs) tailored to the Japan market; delivering technical training to partners and customers; serving as Element's primary voice in Japan; managing complex commercial and technical escalations; maintaining pipeline accuracy and reporting; monitoring competitive landscape and market trends; and representing Japan's priorities in APJ and global planning discussions.
You will report to the Director of Sales – APJ. The role is remote-based in Japan with up to 50% domestic and international travel. This is a full-time position offering stock options, sales commission, and competitive total rewards.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in life science or biomedical engineering (advanced degree preferred)
- Significant sales management experience with strong preference for NGS capital equipment sales
- Demonstrated experience owning full territory or P&L-level business responsibility (not solely channel/distributor management)
- Proven track record managing distributor relationships and direct strategic account engagement
- Excellent communication skills with distributors, direct customers, and KOLs
- Self-starter capable of strategic thinking, independent operation, and driving outcomes with minimal oversight
- Strong organizational, time management, relationship, and networking skills
- Commercial acumen with strong negotiating skills
- Proven market analysis and opportunity identification experience
- High-level business acumen specific to life science tools market
- Fluency in Japanese and English (mandatory for full territory ownership)
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and travel domestically/internationally
- Salesforce.com knowledge desirable
- Experience with multiomic genomics and NGS capital equipment sales is a must
