Anthropic is seeking a Corporate Accountant to join its Finance team. You will own a defined set of accounts and entities through the full close cycle—from transaction through reconciliation—ensuring accuracy, proper support, and clear explanation of all financial statement items.
You will be a hands-on contributor who digs into detail while understanding the reasoning behind processes. You will collaborate closely with partners across Finance, Procurement, Payroll, Legal, Tax, and Finance Systems to build a scalable close function that improves as the company grows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own month-end and quarter-end close activities for assigned accounts and entities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules delivered on schedule
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and flux analyses, investigate variances to root cause, and write clear explanations for reviewers and business partners
- Maintain US GAAP supporting schedules and documentation for areas of ownership (prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, intercompany balances)
- Draft accounting memos and process documentation for routine transactions; escalate non-routine items to Technical Accounting with clear summary and proposed treatment
- Execute internal controls for your areas and prepare audit support, including schedules, evidence, and auditor responses
- Partner with business owners and finance colleagues to understand new transactions, resolve issues at source, and reduce post-close adjustments
- Review work from contractors and team members, providing feedback to raise quality standards
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation, including use of Claude and other AI tools, with careful verification before reliance
- Support system and process changes in accounting, including testing, data validation, and documentation
Minimum Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of US GAAP applied hands-on to monthly close: journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, financial statement support
- Experience preparing account reconciliations and flux analyses in an ERP or general ledger system (Workday, NetSuite, or equivalent)
- Strong spreadsheet skills including lookups, pivot tables, and reconciling large data sets in Excel or Google Sheets
- Experience supporting external audits and operating internal controls
- Clear written and verbal communication, including ability to explain accounting results to non-accountants
- Sound judgment on when to resolve issues independently versus escalate
- Attention to detail, strong sense of ownership, ability to manage competing deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting, industry, or combination
- CPA, ACA, ACCA, or CA qualification, or progress toward one
- Experience in fast-moving environments where processes were still being defined, with track record of improving them
- Familiarity with technical areas such as ASC 842, ASC 718, ASC 606, fixed assets, or multi-entity and intercompany accounting
- Experience with close management or reconciliation tooling, or SQL/Python for data analysis
- Experience with ERP migration, SOX readiness, or public company reporting
- Track record of using AI tools to speed up accounting or finance work with checks that hold up to review
- Genuine interest in AI and Anthropic's mission to build reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in a field relevant to accounting.
