Salary: USD 100,000 - 147,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Controls Engineer III to join the Rocket Motor Systems team in McHenry, Mississippi. The team is designing and commissioning automated equipment for high-rate production of Solid Rocket Motors. In this role, you will take ownership of control systems for production equipment, working with Siemens PLCs and modern automation technologies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, commission, and upgrade control systems for Solid Rocket Motor production equipment
- Write and debug Siemens PLC code (Ladder and Structured Text) with emphasis on organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable code for high-volume manufacturing
- Follow internal standards for control systems architectures, regulatory compliance, and safety buyoffs
- Integrate internal and external FactoryOS software into automation equipment and production lines
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for automation failures, ensuring rapid resolution and long-term reliability
- Install, configure, and tune servo drives and variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- Partner with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot equipment issues, reduce downtime, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
This is a hands-on technical role requiring deep expertise in industrial controls, automation, and manufacturing systems. You will work directly with production equipment and collaborate across engineering and operations teams.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
- 2+ years of experience in controls and automation in a production environment
- Proficient in Siemens PLC programming (Ladder and Structured Text)
- Proficient in servo drive and VFD configuration, PID tuning, STO/SS
- Strong knowledge of ethernet-based communication protocols (ProfiNET, ProfiSAFE, Ethernet IP)
- Proficient with electrical component selection and solid foundation in wire sizing, circuit protection, and heat management in control cabinets
- Experience integrating with SCADA and OT Networking
- Experience performing Risk Assessments and Controls Safety Design
- Proficient with pneumatic concepts and design
- Familiar with NFPA70e electrical safety practices
- Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4+ years of experience in controls and automation in a production environment
- Experience with control panel layout, electrical component selection, and cable routing
- Electrical troubleshooting up to 600VAC
- Experience with SCADA platforms such as Ignition, including Perspective and tag historian configuration
