Marvel Fusion, Europe's leading fusion energy company founded in 2019, is seeking a Control Systems Software Engineer to join their Munich office. The company has raised over €385 million in public and private funding and employs 75 scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs across Munich and Colorado.
In this role, you will develop control systems for various components of a laser facility, working at the intersection of complex time-critical hardware and modern software technologies. You'll be responsible for designing and implementing real-time automation architectures and machine protection systems using Beckhoff PLCs, establishing CI/CD pipelines for control system software, and collaborating closely with scientists and engineers developing high-power laser systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, programming, and commissioning real-time automation architectures and machine protection systems around Beckhoff PLCs
- Designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines for control system software
- Eliciting and managing technical requirements with engineers and scientists
- Collaborating on and improving the control systems architecture and technology stack
- Defining and documenting functional specifications, test plans, and acceptance criteria
You should have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in IT or related engineering field, with 3+ years of hands-on industry experience in software development, backend, or control system programming. Strong proficiency in OOP languages (C++, Python, Java, C#, Kotlin, Rust) is essential, along with understanding of modern software development practices (CI/CD, Git, automated testing). Experience with Beckhoff PLCs, TwinCAT, EPICS, distributed systems, scientific facilities, and real-time control concepts is highly valued. Fluent English is required; German proficiency is welcome.
