The Exploration Company is developing Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle designed for cargo transport and eventual human missions, with in-orbit refueling capabilities. We are seeking a Control System and Model-Based Design Engineer to mature the engine control application for throttleable rocket engines. You will design, implement, test, and validate closed-loop control and operational logic that enables safe and accurate engine operation across its full operating envelope. This role bridges control algorithm development and embedded application logic implementation, progressing from early simulation and control design through MIL/SIL/HIL validation and real test-data analysis. Key responsibilities include: - Design, tune, implement, and validate closed-loop control functions for fluidic systems (pressure, flow rate, pump speed, valve position control) - Develop Simulink functions for control logic, sequencing, state machines, mode management, enable logic, limiters, protections, diagnostics, and actuator command generation - Build control-oriented models, simulations, and test-data replay workflows - Analyze controller performance, stability, robustness, actuator saturation, sensor limitations, delays, nonlinearities, and operating envelope constraints - Implement practical control features: PID, feedforward, filtering, gain scheduling, anti-windup, bumpless transfer, mode-dependent logic - Support MIL, SIL, HIL, and test-data analysis activities - Document design choices, assumptions, interfaces, validation results, and risks - Collaborate with propulsion, embedded software, electronics, test, modeling, and systems engineering teams Ideal candidates hold an engineering degree in control systems, aerospace, electrical, mechanical, automotive, robotics, or related fields. You should have practical MATLAB/Simulink experience, strong feedback control fundamentals, and proven experience implementing and testing control logic on real physical systems. Experience with state machines, mode logic, diagnostics, calibration, production-style Simulink models, MIL/SIL/HIL workflows, or safety-critical systems (automotive, aerospace, propulsion, robotics, energy, industrial automation) is highly valued.
