Meroka is a venture-backed company (raised ~$25M CAD from Slow Ventures, 8VC, Better Tomorrow Ventures, Interplay and others) that acquires physical-economy businesses in construction and blue-collar trades, then equips them with technology for long-term sustainability and growth. The founding team has built and led large construction-tech companies (100M+ revenue, 600+ people), managed M&A for public companies, and founded multiple ventures.
You will be Meroka's first product hire, building AI-native products from zero to one that create tangible value across their portfolio of construction companies. This is not a conventional product role—you'll split time between building in Montreal and visiting portfolio companies to understand real workflows and pain points.
Key responsibilities:
- Identify and build the highest-impact value-added services for portfolio partners from A to Z, establishing quality standards and operational norms.
- Build the team that will deliver these services.
- Spend time in acquired companies: talk to field operators, understand how work actually happens, and build services people will genuinely use and value from.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure services leverage Meroka's core product.
- Co-design with end users, balancing deep understanding of current workflows with vision for transformation enabled by AI and technology.
- Protect and enhance valuable elements and trade secrets embedded in existing workflows.
- Work closely with leadership to define and refine product vision and roadmap, scope and design features, and build prototypes (coding yourself or with AI assistance).
You'll have direct access to real customers (portfolio companies), rapid feedback loops, and immediate deployment—no sales cycle. Your work will reach thousands of field operators and millions of people downstream within years.
Meroka operates with one foot on the job site and one in Silicon Valley. You'll have mornings building product and talking to top-tier investors, afternoons in a pickup truck visiting job sites (steel-toed boots optional but you'll want them). The company holds full-team retreats twice yearly and values in-person collaboration.
Not a fit if: you excel in a narrow niche and want to stay there; you prefer gradual improvements over building from scratch; you need precise processes, defined systems, and manuals to follow; you want a predictable, systematized daily routine; or you need problems with clear, simple, unambiguous solutions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Fully fluent in both French and English (written and spoken)—this is essential.
- Operational experience in a relevant business function.
- Have led a team before.
- Interest in the physical, built world and the operators who run it.
- Comfort with ambiguity; ability to build structure, processes, and tools to reduce it over time.
- Continuous learner who makes connections across domains to innovate.
- Experience building from scratch in early-stage environments, startups, or your own projects.
NICE TO HAVES:
- Experience in physical-economy industries (warehousing, manufacturing, logistics, construction, etc.).
- Background as construction project manager, site supervisor, or administrative support.
- Experience leading people and teams.
- Fluency with AI coding tools and ability to turn ideas into tangible products.
