Fuse is building fusion energy technology to accelerate the world's transition to clean energy. As a Computational Physicist, you will develop and run simulations for pulsed-power systems that are central to the company's fusion approach.
You'll work across multiple simulation domains: magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) modeling to study plasma dynamics in fusion and Z-pinch configurations, particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations for plasma interactions and beam dynamics, and circuit-level modeling using tools like the Screamer code for high-voltage pulse generation. Your responsibilities include utilizing and modifying existing codes, developing custom computational tools optimized for high-performance computing (HPC), and analyzing large datasets to extract insights.
Collaboration is central to the role. You'll work closely with experimentalists to validate models, optimize system performance, and ensure simulations accurately predict real-world behavior. You'll also mentor junior team members, contribute to academic papers and technical reports, and present findings to both internal teams and external collaborators.
The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. or M.S. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field, with strong background in computational plasma physics and high-energy-density physics. You should have hands-on experience with plasma simulation codes (Screamer, MAGIC, HYDRA, or similar), proficiency in MHD and PIC techniques, and strong programming skills in Python, Fortran, C++, or MATLAB. Experience with HPC environments and parallel computing is required. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with Z-pinch and MagLIF devices, finite element or finite difference methods, electromagnetic wave propagation, experimental plasma physics background, and a strong publication record.
