KoBold Metals is an AI-driven mineral exploration company that combines advanced computational models with novel sensor technology to discover high-quality ore deposits more efficiently than traditional methods. In this role, you will own the computational hydrogeology program for KoBold's exploration and mining projects, including pre-feasibility and feasibility engineering studies. You will develop water management strategies that maximize safety, feasibility, and value for future mining operations. Working closely with field hydrogeologists, mining engineers, and computational scientists, you will lead the development and execution of numerical simulations for quantitative evaluation of these strategies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop multiple alternative groundwater management strategies with quality metrics
- Identify data and information needed to evaluate strategy efficacy and compare approaches
- Design data collection programs and work with field teams on execution methodologies
- Build and run computational analyses including numerical groundwater flow simulations, post-processing algorithms, and uncertainty quantification
- Collaborate with data scientists to develop novel approaches and tools for extracting insights from results
You will be part of an outstanding team of geoscientists, data scientists, and software engineers, contributing to both novel data collection programs and physics-based/data-driven models of hydrogeology at exploration sites. A core challenge will be quantifying uncertainties relevant to mining and identifying efficient means to reduce them as projects advance.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's or advanced degree in hydrogeology, geology, computational geoscience, or related discipline; 6-10 years of work experience with at least 2 years in mining hydrogeology; experience designing and implementing water management strategies for mining; expertise in computational modeling of porous media flows and coupled groundwater/surface-water systems; proficiency with MODFLOW, FEFLOW, or similar modeling software; strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical domains.
