Octopus Energy France, the 5th largest energy supplier in France and a leader in renewable energy, is undergoing rapid growth across B2C, B2B, and B2G segments. The Finance function is scaling in parallel, with recent migration from Odoo to NetSuite, supplier chain automation, billing platform integration, and alignment with UK group standards. This role is for a senior accountant to own a critical scope (gross margin and energy tax compliance), stabilize it, and drive continuous improvement.
You will not be an executor but a problem-solver who identifies root causes and implements sustainable solutions.
**Key Responsibilities:**
Gross Margin & Energy Accounting: Lead monthly accounting of gross margin flows (energy purchases, transmission, invoiced and uninvoiced sales) and produce critical analysis of variations, gaps, and levers. Strengthen month-end cut-off and accruals (invoices to issue, delivered but uninvoiced energy, provisions) in coordination with operations and billing teams. Document and justify accounts within your scope; resolve anomalies to completion.
Energy Tax & VAT: Prepare, review, and file VAT declarations (CA3), electricity and natural gas excise taxes, and CTA. Prepare intra-EU goods exchange declarations (EMEBI). Be the reference contact for tax questions in your scope: analyze new cases (commercial offers, loyalty programs, new products), formalize positions, and challenge them with external advisors. Contribute to compliance with electronic invoicing and e-reporting reforms.
Supervision & Control: Oversee and control supplier accounting operations; contribute to automation chain improvements (NetSuite, Rossum). Serve as primary contact for statutory auditors and external auditors on your scope: prepare supporting documents, respond to requests, track recommendations.
Structuring & Continuous Improvement: Identify friction points in closings and processes; propose and implement solutions. Shorten and strengthen monthly closings post-NetSuite migration. Document processes and controls. Drive AI and automation deployment within Finance.
**Expectations by Timeline:**
First 3 months: Master NetSuite, Rossum, and system flows between ERP and billing/back-office platforms. Understand energy market mechanics and gross margin construction. Complete first closings and tax filings in tandem with a peer; deliver initial diagnosis of scope vulnerabilities.
Months 4–6: Achieve full autonomy on closings, margin analysis, and all tax filings. Become the internal and external reference on energy tax matters. Deliver at least one concrete, measurable improvement (process, control, or automation).
Beyond 6 months: Propose Finance roadmap initiatives and mentor the team on your scope.
**Requirements:**
Education & Experience: Degree in DSCG, DCG, Master CCA, or equivalent, with 4–7 years in accounting and tax. Ideally, prior audit/tax advisory firm experience followed by corporate role.
Technical Skills: Strong VAT expertise; energy excise tax knowledge preferred. Experience in energy, utilities, or high-volume billing sectors is a strong plus. Comfortable with demanding monthly closings and auditor interactions. Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query); ability to analyze large datasets. Appetite for automation and AI tools appreciated. Knowledge of ERP systems (NetSuite preferred); experience with migration or process redesign projects desired.
Languages: Fluent French and professional English (B2–C1 level); regular communication with UK group teams.
Differentiators: True problem-solver who traces root causes and prevents recurrence. Comfortable in evolving environments with incomplete documentation; enjoys structuring. Autonomous, rigorous, and able to prioritize in fast-moving contexts. Able to explain technical topics to non-financial stakeholders (operations, billing, IT).
