Affirm is seeking a Compliance Manager to own end-to-end compliance advisory for the Affirm Card program. In this role, you will be the primary compliance expert guiding the Card product through its full lifecycle—from marketing and onboarding through wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay), disputes, and servicing. You'll partner directly with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure card features are compliant and built to last. Key responsibilities include: - Own compliance advisory across card marketing, checkout, onboarding, wallet integrations, disputes, and servicing, partnering with cross-functional teams throughout development - Apply sound judgment under EFTA (Reg E), TILA (Reg Z)/CARD Act, and UDAAP to navigate novel regulatory questions, escalating only when genuinely warranted - Review and approve Affirm Card marketing, disclosures, and UX to ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with consumer protection standards - Lead root-cause analysis and remediation for Card compliance issues (disputes, adverse action notices, declines) through to sustainable closure, prioritizing durable fixes over one-off patches - Partner with Compliance Testing, Legal, and Risk to prepare for and support regulatory exams and bank partner audits - Maintain and contribute to the Card program's compliance risk assessment and control inventory, proactively identifying and closing coverage gaps - Develop and maintain compliance training and reference materials specific to Card regulatory requirements - Serve as the go-to compliance expert on new and evolving Card features, surfacing risk early in the product lifecycle This role is ideal for someone comfortable operating independently in ambiguous, fast-paced environments. Much of what Affirm builds on Card is genuinely new and without precedent; you'll take on that ambiguity rather than wait for a playbook. You'll need to make independent, risk-based decisions with incomplete information and communicate complex regulatory issues clearly to non-compliance audiences, including senior leadership. REQUIREMENTS: - 8+ years of experience in a compliance advisory role within financial services with a Bachelor's degree (or 6+ years with a Master's degree, or 3+ years with a PhD, or equivalent) - Meaningful experience on card and payments products; compliance certifications a plus - Deep working knowledge of EFTA (Reg E) and TILA (Reg Z)/CARD Act as applied to card products - Familiarity with TISA (Reg DD) and UDAAP - Hands-on experience with card network rules (Visa, Mastercard) is a big plus - Demonstrated track record of operating independently in ambiguous, fast-paced environments, making sound risk-based decisions with incomplete information - Experience owning issues from root-cause analysis through sustainable remediation - Experience advising and building credibility with Product, Engineering, and Operations stakeholders on card, lending, or payments programs - Strong verbal and written communication skills - Self-directed with strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills - Inquisitive and proactive in identifying problems and proposing practical, business-aware solutions
