Anthropic is seeking a Community Engagement Manager to serve as the on-the-ground presence in Australian communities where the company operates data centres. This is a relationship-focused role bridging Anthropic's Policy and Infrastructure teams with local officials, community organisations, economic development partners, and residents.
Key responsibilities include building and maintaining trusted relationships with local councils, state government agencies, regional development organisations, and community groups across data centre markets. You will develop and execute comprehensive community engagement strategies spanning site selection, pre-development, construction, and ongoing operations. This includes hosting education sessions, designing local solutions that deliver real community benefits, and representing Anthropic in public forums, town halls, planning hearings, and media appearances.
You will monitor community sentiment and local political dynamics, advising internal teams on risks and opportunities. Working closely with Real Estate, Infrastructure, Communications, Energy, and Sustainability teams, you will integrate community input into project planning and delivery. You will also coordinate charitable donations, community investment, and economic development commitments, managing relationships with nonprofit partners.
A key aspect of this role is building scalable community engagement processes and playbooks that will guide Anthropic's expansion across multiple data centre markets. You will travel regularly within your region (up to 50% of the time) and occasionally to other Anthropic data centre markets.
Required experience includes 7+ years in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, or government relations, with direct experience engaging local councils and state governments on large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects. You must be a skilled relationship and coalition builder who earns trust across diverse stakeholder groups and maintains relationships through difficult conversations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, including the ability to translate complex operational plans into plain language for local officials and media. You must be based in Australia or willing to relocate, with willingness to travel regularly across the region.
