Harbinger is an American commercial electric vehicle (EV) company transforming the medium-duty EV and hybrid market. The Commodity Manager, Service will manage sourcing, purchasing, and supply of replacement parts to support Harbinger vehicles throughout their lifecycle, ensuring the right parts are available at the right cost, quantity, quality, and time for service centers, dealers, fleet customers, warranty operations, and vehicles in the field. This is a highly hands-on role requiring deep understanding of aftermarket supply dynamics, which differ significantly from production purchasing. Service parts demand is unpredictable, order quantities are often low, lead times can be extended, and stockout costs are substantial for commercial vehicle customers. The ideal candidate is analytical, operationally focused, commercially savvy, and skilled at balancing service level, inventory investment, supplier performance, and total cost. Key Responsibilities: - Develop comprehensive sourcing strategies and negotiate commercial terms (pricing, lead times, MOQs) to optimize cost and availability while driving continuous cost-reduction initiatives. - Manage daily purchasing activities including POs, delivery schedules, and expedites; lead shortage recovery and monitor supplier KPIs (on-time delivery, fill rate) to protect field service operations. - Translate demand forecasts, warranty data, and vehicle population into actionable replenishment plans, balancing required service levels with optimized inventory (safety stock, MOQs, end-of-life considerations). - Manage purchasing impact of engineering changes (ECOs/PCOs), part supersessions, substitutions, and end-of-life requirements. - Ensure aftermarket readiness for new vehicle launches (SOP) and partner with Quality, Engineering, and Operations to resolve supplier issues and support field service/warranty campaigns. - Work cross-functionally with Service Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, Warranty, Finance, and suppliers to establish and maintain a reliable service-parts supply network. Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent, with 3+ years of purchasing/supply chain experience, preferably in automotive, EV, aerospace, or managing low-volume/high-variability aftermarket parts. - Proven ability to manage day-to-day supplier performance, purchase orders, delivery schedules, shortages, expedites, and inventory planning. - Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing favorable pricing, lead times, and commercial terms while balancing customer service against inventory investment and total cost. - Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP platforms (e.g., Oracle, SAP) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for evaluating demand, identifying trends, and analyzing large datasets. - Highly independent problem-solver with excellent cross-functional communication skills, capable of managing competing, time-sensitive priorities in a fast-paced environment. - Willingness to travel periodically as required. Preferred Qualifications: - Familiarity with automotive BOMs, parts catalogs, ECOs, and managing low-volume, obsolete, or warranty-driven parts. - Knowledge of automotive quality systems, corrective actions, and standard processes (APQP, PPAP, FMEA). - Experience managing multi-tier global suppliers, executing should-cost analysis, and driving competitive benchmarking. - Experience with aftermarket inventory/demand-planning systems and establishing parts readiness prior to new vehicle SOP. - Knowledge of automotive warehousing, distribution, freight, and aftermarket fulfillment processes.
