Pogo is hiring its first in-house Commercial Counsel to build and scale the legal function from the ground up. This is a hands-on role combining commercial contracting expertise with broader legal leadership. Key Responsibilities: - Own commercial contracting end-to-end: MSAs, Order Forms, DPAs, NDAs, vendor and partnership agreements - Negotiate complex enterprise technology and SaaS agreements directly with customers and their legal/procurement teams - Partner closely with the GTM team to close sophisticated enterprise deals while balancing risk, speed, and commercial reality - Build templates, playbooks, workflows, and automations to enable Pogo to scale efficiently - Provide legal counsel across privacy, product, data, employment, corporate, insurance, compliance, IP, and disputes—engaging specialist outside counsel as needed - Take increasing ownership of Pogo's legal function as the company grows - Represent Pogo confidently in customer negotiations and build trust with external legal teams What Makes This Unique: As the first dedicated in-house legal hire, you'll shape how the legal function operates at Pogo. You'll have access to experienced fractional and specialist counsel for support and deeper expertise, but you'll be expected to be hands-on: drafting, redlining, negotiating, advising the business, and building systems. This is not a "quarterback outside counsel" role. The company is excited about using AI, automation, and thoughtful processes to keep legal lean and effective as it scales. The Role Requires Comfort With: - Significant ambiguity and lack of established process (you'll build these) - Wearing multiple hats across commercial, privacy, employment, corporate, and other legal domains - High ownership and autonomy - Working beyond standard hours at an early-stage company, though flexible scheduling and unlimited PTO (with a 20-day minimum vacation policy) are offered Requirements: - 4–8 years of legal experience, ideally combining strong law firm training with in-house experience at a high-growth technology company - Focus on commercial contracting - JD from an accredited law school - Active license to practice law in the US - Significant experience independently negotiating complex enterprise technology, SaaS, and data agreements - Excellent legal and commercial judgment; ability to communicate complex issues clearly and provide practical, actionable recommendations - Comfortable representing the company in front of customers and building trust with customer legal and procurement teams - Thrive with ownership and ambiguity; enjoy building systems - Excited about using AI and automation to build a modern legal function Bonus: - Experience with privacy/data/product counseling - Legal ops and automation expertise - Broader experience across employment, corporate, insurance, compliance, and IP
