The Exploration Company is developing Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle designed for cargo transport and eventual human missions, with in-orbit refueling capability. The company is building proprietary propulsion systems to ensure mission-critical efficiency and reliability.
We seek a Combustion Engineer to join the Future Project division, contributing to the design, analysis, and optimization of combustion devices for cryogenic rocket engines. This role bridges theory, computational modeling, and experimental validation in a fast-moving aerospace engineering environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting global combustor fluidic system development using theoretical analysis and CFD
- Driving injector design and optimization against combustor requirements
- Defining instrumentation for hot-fire testing and interpreting post-test data
- Reducing and analyzing hot-fire test data to derive performance and combustion-stability metrics
- Supporting design reviews with clear technical justification
Required qualifications:
- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- 3+ years of relevant experience in combustion, propulsion, or reacting-flow engineering
- Solid foundation in bi-liquid rocket combustion processes
- Strong background in reacting-flow CFD (ANSYS, OpenFOAM, Converge) using RANS and/or LES
- Strong scripting and data-analysis ability in Python or similar
Desirable experience includes exposure to liquid rocket injector CFD, cryogenic propellant combustion, combustion instability, thermoacoustics, uncertainty quantification, and participation in hot-fire test campaigns.
The role requires structured problem-solving, demonstrated rigor in technical work, ability to iterate under uncertainty, clear communication, and comfort in cross-disciplinary teams.
