As Cloud Platform Engineer, you will own Mercor's internal IT infrastructure and operate it as code. This is a critical operational role reporting directly to the Head of IT. Your primary responsibilities include managing Mercor's identity infrastructure through Okta configuration and provisioning, implemented declaratively in Terraform rather than through manual console clicks. You'll design and implement SCIM integrations across the SaaS stack to automate user provisioning and deprovisioning workflows.
You'll architect identity systems as the company scales from hundreds to thousands of employees, defining access models, group strategies, and entitlement evolution. You'll own cloud account structure, IAM roles, and permission boundaries across AWS, GCP, Azure, and Vercel, maintaining least-privilege access principles throughout organizational growth. Your work includes building and maintaining Terraform for internal platforms to ensure reproducible environments and reviewable changes.
Additional responsibilities encompass designing and owning secrets management, key rotation, and service-account lifecycle; building automation to reduce manual ticket volume for employee onboarding and offboarding; troubleshooting identity and infrastructure issues with root-cause analysis; and documenting platform architecture, runbooks, and automation for team operations. You'll mentor future IT team members on infrastructure-as-code and automation practices, and help establish sustainable escalation procedures as the team grows.
Ideal candidates have hands-on production experience with Terraform managing real infrastructure as code, production experience with Okta and SCIM integrations (ideally managed declaratively), and strong IAM skills across at least two major cloud platforms. You should be proficient in at least one programming language with demonstrated coding principles understanding, experienced in building automated workflows via APIs, and skilled in incident management with strong root-cause analysis abilities. Excellent documentation and communication skills are essential, particularly explaining technical identity and infrastructure concepts to non-technical stakeholders. A systems-thinking mindset that naturally traces dependencies and considers second-order effects is valued.
This is a full-time, in-office role in San Francisco requiring five days per week on-site. The position includes participation in an on-call rotation for weekend emergencies.
