You will be a pivotal engineering contributor to the tooling and services that automate and enhance the software development lifecycle for SonarSource teams across five offices (Austin, Geneva, Bochum, and Singapore). As a Cloud Platform Automation Engineer, you will design and evolve secure, reliable AWS foundations using infrastructure-as-code, automated deployment pipelines, and tested change controls. You will develop pragmatic tooling, integrations, and automation that solve operational problems for Systems Engineering and make internal customers more self-sufficient.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement secure AWS infrastructure using reusable infrastructure-as-code patterns
- Develop automation tools and integrations to maximize reliability and minimize repetitive tasks
- Use and develop AI-enabled tooling to improve infrastructure delivery and operational triage
- Define and improve monitoring, alerting, dashboards, runbooks, SLIs/SLOs, and capacity planning
- Design and operate secure cloud controls including least-privilege access, policy-as-code, and secrets management
- Participate in on-call and incident response; lead root-cause analysis and preventative follow-up
- Lead resilience engineering exercises (FMEAs and recovery drills) for critical services
- Produce lightweight designs, establish standards, and mentor peers on reliable platform patterns
- Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Security, IT Ops, Product Engineering, and external providers
The role requires working in-office in Bochum three anchor days per week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays) to foster team collaboration. Candidates must be genuinely based in or willing to relocate to Bochum.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in cloud, platform, site reliability, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering in SaaS, cloud-native, or complex enterprise environments
- Strong AWS experience including networking, IAM, DNS, logging/monitoring, compute, storage, security controls, and multi-account/multi-environment design
- Deep infrastructure-as-code experience with AWS CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent, including reusable modules, automated testing, code review, and CI/CD delivery
- Strong software engineering and automation skills in Python, TypeScript, Go, Bash, or comparable language with emphasis on AI skillsets
- Experience designing production-grade observability (metrics, logs, traces, alerting, dashboards, runbooks)
- Demonstrated ability to automate operational controls while preserving approvals, auditability, and safety
- Experience with incident response, post-incident engineering, root-cause analysis, and translating lessons into reliability improvements
- Sound knowledge of cloud security principles: IAM, least privilege, encryption, secrets handling, secure networking, vulnerability management, logging
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
