Canva is seeking a Cloud Hosting Finance Analyst to join its FP&A team in Sydney. This hybrid role sits within Tech & Product Finance, owning the financial analysis and data infrastructure around Canva's cloud hosting spend—the single largest cost lever in the company's P&L and a rapidly evolving area as AI workloads scale.
You will be the hybrid finance and data analyst responsible for keeping hosting spend understood, trusted, and well-forecasted. Your core responsibilities include:
- Reconciling hosting data across all centralized cloud vendor bill line items (AWS, GCP, and emerging providers like Anthropic and OpenAI) so FP&A partners can confidently use the numbers for strategic analysis.
- Owning the R&D reclass (COGS vs non-COGS) and free reclass (AI vs non-AI) methodologies in the Anaplan hosting model, working with Accounting and technical accounting on audit readiness.
- Managing the finance rhythm for hosting: monthly close, quarterly Outlooks, annual AOP, including ProsperOps accruals, AWS/GCP invoice validation, and monthly billing console reconciliations.
- Building and maintaining queries and dashboards that answer questions from Finance Business Partners, Procurement, and Group Leads about service movements and new workload costs.
- Partnering with FinOps and Finance Data teams on cloud cost tagging, vendor onboarding, and anomaly detection.
- Preparing models and scenario analysis for cloud hosting vendor renewal and negotiation conversations, including commit sizing and break-even analysis.
- Using AI tools fluently in daily workflows and helping design chargeback pilot models as Canva moves toward distributed cost accountability.
You'll work alongside AI and non-AI hosting spend analysts, owning the data layer that both teams rely on. Your work directly enables strategic decision-making across the company by providing clean, auditable, and actionable hosting cost data.
Canva is a design platform at scale, operating with hundreds of millions of users. The company is transitioning to an AI-native model, making hosting and infrastructure costs strategically critical and fast-moving.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong data proficiency and daily comfort with a BI tool (Mode, Looker, Omni, or similar).
- Strong modelling skills, especially driver-based modelling for cloud hosting spend.
- Hands-on experience with large transactional datasets, ideally cloud cost or billing data (CUR, FinOps tooling).
- Working knowledge of AWS or GCP billing, including Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Capacity Blocks, and Committed Use Discounts.
- Experience operating within an FP&A function or similar, comfortable with monthly close, quarterly forecasting cadences, variance analysis, and planning cycles.
- Fluent use of AI tools for model building and daily analytical work.
- Clear written communication and attention to detail across invoices, accruals, reclasses, and reconciliations.
- Experience with Anaplan (strongly preferred) or another enterprise planning tool (Adaptive, Pigment, Oracle EPM) is a plus.
- Any exposure to FinOps practices and tooling (ProsperOps, Vantage, native cloud cost tools) or chargeback/showback model design is a bonus.
