eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. We are seeking a Cloud Engineer to join our Quantum Firmware Team in Siegen (or Hamburg) to build and operate the scalable, secure cloud platform that connects users with our trapped-ion quantum computers.
In this role, you will own the complete cloud infrastructure layer through which users interact with our quantum systems. Your responsibilities include:
• Build and operate cloud services enabling users to submit quantum programs and retrieve results
• Develop and deploy the compilation pipeline as a scalable cloud service, handling circuit input through transpilation to hardware-level instructions
• Design and maintain public API and SDK entry points to the platform
• Implement job queuing, scheduling, and dispatch to hardware backends, including quota management, prioritization, and result handling
• Own authentication and authorization across the platform: user and tenant identity, API keys and tokens, role-based access control, built on established identity providers
• Guarantee tenant isolation so quantum programs and results remain confidential across customer boundaries; manage secrets and credentials across the stack
• Collaborate with quantum firmware and hardware teams on cloud-to-machine interfaces
• Instrument the platform for observability, monitoring latency, throughput, and cost

REQUIREMENTS:
• 3+ years hands-on experience building and deploying backend or platform services in production
• Strong Python proficiency; additional systems-level language experience (Go, Rust, C++) welcome
• Solid API design skills (REST and/or gRPC) for services other developers use
• Practical production experience with authentication and authorization: OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect, token handling, role-based access control
• Secure engineering habits: least privilege by default, proper secrets management, awareness of dependency and container supply-chain risks
• Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi, or similar) and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar)
• Working understanding of GDPR and data residency requirements; genuine interest in digital sovereignty
• Ability to collaborate effectively with experimental physicists and engineers
• Strong adaptability and quick learning mindset
• Good English proficiency (written and spoken); German an advantage for public-sector partner work
BONUS SKILLS:
• Running an identity provider in production (Keycloak, Zitadel, Ory, Authentik, or managed IAM service)
• Multi-tenant isolation patterns in SaaS platforms
• Security certification work (ISO 27001, BSI IT-Grundschutz, BSI C5) or penetration test response
• Familiarity with quantum SDKs and toolchains (Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane, QIR) or hardware abstraction interfaces (QDMI)
• Batch scheduling or HPC environments (Slurm or similar)
• Observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
• Prior exposure to quantum computing or other deep-tech domains
