This Cloud Database Administrator role is based in Pune, India and reports to the infrastructure/operations team. You will be responsible for administrating and implementing database solutions across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and other cloud environments, with approximately 30% of time dedicated to GCP-specific work.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full administration of enterprise database technology deployed in the cloud, including Microsoft SQL Server and other database platforms
- Configuration, maintenance, and patching of database platforms
- Performance monitoring, utilization analysis, and capacity planning for database instances
- Management of maintenance plans, backups, and automated jobs
- Database platform security model administration, including Active Directory integration in multi-forest environments
- Query writing, optimization, and database schema design
- Development and administration of Google BigQuery datasets, tables, views, partitioning, clustering, permissions, and data pipelines
- Support for BigQuery SQL development, performance tuning, cost optimization, and data governance
- Proficiency with GCP tools (Cloud Console, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Dataflow, Dataproc) and enterprise tools (SQL Server Management Studio, Looker, Tableau, Visual Studio Code, Git, PowerShell, Python)
- Application of AI agents and automation tools to improve database operations, monitoring, incident triage, and self-service capabilities
- Performance analysis and troubleshooting through traces and profiling
- Collaboration with application teams and software development groups in Agile/SCRUM environments
- On-call support for after-hours issues with automated alerting
- Technical support for internal users, issue triage, documentation, and escalation
- Training and knowledge transfer to team members
The role requires strong troubleshooting techniques, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high customer satisfaction.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum: 7+ years of database administration experience in cloud-based enterprise environments, preferably across multiple cloud providers and database platforms; administrative knowledge of Active Directory and database security; scripting and automation experience; excellent verbal and written communication; strong customer service and analytical skills; ability to solve complex problems independently; experience with at least one of Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS; experience with AI agents, copilots, or intelligent automation for database administration; Linux experience a plus; backup and disaster recovery technology experience.
Preferred: 10+ years of experience spanning multiple environments; MongoDB and non-Microsoft SQL Server database technologies; data warehousing experience; hands-on Google Cloud database administration including BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, IAM, performance tuning, cost optimization, and data governance; experience with AI agents and intelligent automation for database operations and self-service workflows; PowerShell scripting and automation.
