iCapital is seeking a Cloud Architecture Engineer to design and improve core compute, network, and edge infrastructure on AWS and Kubernetes. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on big-picture architectural thinking combined with hands-on technical execution.
You will own the design and operational management of Kubernetes cluster architecture, including lifecycle management and autoscaling strategies. You'll work on integrating new self-hosted and SaaS services, collaborating with application developers on software architecture decisions. Key responsibilities include managing AWS Transit Gateway, Network Firewall, and external connectivity; establishing architectural guidance for edge infrastructure, CDN, DNS, and TLS strategies (Akamai, Cloudflare); producing and maintaining reference architectures and design documents; and partnering with engineering, security, and product teams to ensure platform standards are practical and broadly adopted.
The role emphasizes automation-first mentality, working with application and platform teams to onboard services, establish connectivity, troubleshoot traffic flows, and maintain consistent networking patterns across environments. You will operate as a senior individual contributor with influence across multiple teams and strong communication skills to explain architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
The company works in-office Monday–Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of experience in platform, cloud, or infrastructure engineering roles with demonstrated architectural responsibility
- Strong hands-on experience designing and operating Kubernetes platforms in production environments, including autoscaling strategies, node provisioning, and EKS security
- Deep understanding of AWS infrastructure (networking, security primitives, managed services, VPC design, routing, scale planning)
- Strong understanding of ingress/egress, Transit Gateway design, and private connectivity
- Comfortable operating as a senior individual contributor with cross-team influence and leadership
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED:
- Expertise in Kong or other API Gateways
- Production experience managing Akamai
- Strong application design principles knowledge
- Experience with EKS standards (Bottlerocket, Karpenter, Auto-mode)
- Software engineering background and Python experience
- AWS or Kubernetes certifications
