Xona Space Systems is seeking an experienced Cloud Architect to join the Platform Engineering team. This role combines high-level architectural strategy with hands-on operational excellence, bridging traditional architecture and CloudOps.
You will own and evolve Xona's AWS multi-account cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and cost optimization. Key responsibilities include architecting complex enterprise networking topologies (VPC design, Transit Gateways, Direct Connect, VPNs, routing policies) with secure segmentation and low-latency connectivity. You will drive standardization and automation of infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and AWS CDK, collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering on monitoring, logging, and tracing frameworks (OpenTelemetry, AWS CloudWatch), and act as an internal consultant for product engineering teams, providing self-service infrastructure templates, launch reviews, and capacity planning.
Required qualifications: 7+ years in IT with 4+ years specializing in cloud architecture and infrastructure engineering on AWS, GCP, or Azure. Deep hands-on knowledge of AWS networking services (VPC, Transit Gateway, Route 53, Direct Connect) and on-premises connectivity. Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and solid understanding of container technologies (ECS, EKS). Demonstrated experience designing secure cloud environments following Principle of Least Privilege and Zero Trust principles. Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Bash) for automation and tooling. AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional certification or equivalent hands-on enterprise experience strongly preferred.
Preferred qualifications include advanced certifications (AWS Advanced Networking Specialty, CKA), FinOps knowledge, and software engineering experience across the stack.
