As Clinical Coordinator for Nursing Programs, you will build and lead the clinical instructor function for Stepful's rapidly growing nursing education programs. This role consolidates clinical education coordination—currently distributed across multiple people—under one owner responsible for making it excellent and scalable.
You will start with a clinical teaching load of approximately two days per week at clinical sites while recruiting and developing a team of clinical instructors. As the team grows, your teaching responsibility transitions to backup coverage, and your focus shifts to leading the instructor team, deepening clinical site relationships, and running operational systems.
Key responsibilities include:
**Teaching & Modeling**: Carry a clinical and skills lab teaching load (~2 days/week) at clinical and simulation lab sites, modeling the standard of instruction you'll hold your team to. Transition to backup instructor role as the team grows.
**Team Building**: Recruit, hire, and onboard clinical instructors. Train and develop them in the field. Serve as first point of contact for faculty questions, issues, and escalations. Experiment with AI tools and documentation systems to improve instructor onboarding and support.
**Site Relationships**: Build and maintain relationships with clinical site partners, including unit leadership and staff. Secure new clinical partners as needed. Act as liaison between instructors and site staff, resolving issues before they reach students. Conduct site visits to assess acuity, patient population, and learning opportunities. Handle onboarding logistics for new instructors at each site.
**Clinical Operations**: Manage clinical site assignments and rotation scheduling across cohorts. Confirm coverage for every scheduled clinical day, securing substitutes when needed. Arrange computer access, badging, and orientation for students. Maintain current agency availability records and adjust schedules as needed. Keep leadership apprised of changes in clinical procedures and protocols.
**Documentation & Compliance**: Collect and maintain clinical paperwork, student and faculty compliance records, evaluations, and Board of Nursing documentation. Track clinical instructor credentialing, health requirements, and site-specific clearances. Manage electronic clinical requirement tracking and communicate proactively when records are out of date. Ensure clinical records are audit-ready for Board of Nursing and accreditation review.
You will report to the Dean of Nursing and serve as connective tissue between clinical instructors, site partners, and academic leadership. This is a fully remote role with up to 50% travel, primarily to clinical sites in Ohio and Michigan initially, expanding to other Midwest states as programs scale.
**Requirements:**
- Active, unrestricted compact (multistate) RN license, or eligibility to obtain one
- Master's degree in nursing (required for accreditation purposes)
- 2+ years teaching clinicals in a nursing education program
- Experience training, onboarding, or mentoring clinical instructors or preceptors
- Current BLS/CPR certification (healthcare provider level)
- Ability to meet clinical site health and immunization requirements, including required vaccinations and background screening
- Willingness to travel up to 50%
- Strong organizational skills and comfort managing schedules, documentation, and logistics across multiple sites
- Relationship-oriented approach with demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships
