Bugcrowd is seeking a Cleared Vulnerability Research Engineer to design, develop, and validate novel vulnerability discovery and exploitation capabilities against complex software and systems. This is a highly technical, independent role focused on end-to-end exploit development for real-world targets, operating at the OS, binary, and micro-architectural levels.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop novel vulnerability discovery and exploitation capabilities
- Conduct expert reverse engineering of binaries (x86-64, ARM64, etc.) using tools like Binary Ninja, Ghidra, or IDA Pro
- Identify and exploit real-world vulnerabilities including use-after-free, type confusion, integer truncation, and buffer overflow
- Discover new, previously unknown vulnerabilities in complex systems
- Employ both manual analysis and automated techniques (fuzzing) for vulnerability discovery
- Code and debug complex functions in C, Python, and Assembly
- Independently manage research objectives from scoping through validation and iteration
- Travel to customer sites as required, including extended on-site periods in cleared facilities
Required qualifications:
- TS/SCI security clearance (inactive SCI acceptable if SCI-clearable)
- Demonstrated expertise in binary reverse engineering and exploit development
- Proven ability to discover novel vulnerabilities, not just exploit known ones
- Proficiency in C, Python, and Assembly (x86-64, ARM)
- Ability to independently translate under-defined mission objectives into concrete technical capabilities
- Comfort operating with minimal supervision and incomplete problem definitions
- Willingness to travel to customer locations
This role offers significant technical autonomy and the opportunity to work on cutting-edge security research. The position is remote-based but requires periodic travel to customer sites, particularly in Alabama for work in cleared spaces.
