As Chief Technology Officer, you will lead Amber's technology function and join the executive team, reporting directly to co-founder and Co-CEO Chris Thompson. You will oversee a technology organization of approximately 80 engineers and manage the evolution of a global platform that controls physical assets in tens of thousands of homes and participates in the National Electricity Market every five minutes.
The core technical challenge involves architecting a unified platform that serves dual purposes: powering Amber's own retail electricity business in Australia while simultaneously operating within utility partners' systems overseas. The platform's accuracy directly impacts customer bills, making reliability and precision critical. You will guide the technology strategy as the company scales beyond 200 employees and expands its product offerings, including new vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology launching in 2026.
This is a succession role following the departure of Amber's founding CTO after seven years. You will inherit a mature engineering organization built from an early MVP and shape its evolution to support continued rapid growth and international expansion. The role requires deep technical leadership, architectural vision, and the ability to manage complex distributed systems that interface with critical energy infrastructure.
