Submittable is seeking a Chief Technology Officer to lead the engineering vision, architecture, and execution as the company scales. This is a C-level role reporting directly to the CEO, responsible for building and leading a high-performing, globally distributed engineering organization spanning India and the US.
Key responsibilities include defining and owning a multi-year technology roadmap and architecture strategy aligned with business goals; evaluating and evolving the technology stack to support scalability, security, and reliability; and championing product stability and platform resilience as a top engineering priority. The CTO will own build-vs-buy decisions, vendor partnerships, and strategies for legacy platform maintenance and potential migrations.
Engineering leadership is central to the role: recruiting, developing, and retaining engineering talent; establishing best practices around code quality, testing, CI/CD, incident response, and security; and driving cross-border collaboration between distributed US and India teams.
The CTO will partner closely with Product on roadmap prioritization and technical feasibility, work with Sales and Customer Success on technical escalations and enterprise requirements, and represent engineering in executive leadership team strategic planning, budgeting, and board-level initiatives.
Operational excellence includes owning engineering KPIs (uptime, velocity, technical debt, defect reporting, AI utilization), overseeing security and compliance (SOC II audits, pen testing, privacy), managing engineering budget and headcount planning, and ensuring compliance with data security and industry regulations.
Required qualifications: 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in senior technology leadership (CTO or equivalent) at a SaaS company; proven experience leading distributed/global engineering teams, ideally including India-based teams; track record of scaling engineering organizations through growth stages; demonstrated experience building or scaling AI/ML-powered product features; strong technical foundation in modern web architecture, cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP), APIs, and data security; experience partnering with executive leadership on business strategy; excellent communication skills for translating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and boards. Experience with M&A technical due diligence, platform migrations, or major re-architecture projects is a plus.
