flatfair is a proptech company that has evolved from a single-product business into a multi-product, revenue-generating platform. They are seeking a Chief Technology Officer to lead Technology and Product functions and establish foundations for the next growth phase.
You will report to the CEO and work closely with the leadership team to translate business priorities into products and technology that deliver customer and partner value. This is a broad role requiring comfort moving between company strategy, technical decisions, team leadership, and delivery execution.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting technical direction and making major architectural decisions
- Establishing frameworks, standards, and governance that enable engineers to build effectively and move quickly
- Staying technically engaged with depth to review architecture, code, and contribute directly when valuable
- Integrating Product Management within your remit, aligning Product and Engineering around clear priorities and strong problem definition
- Leading a team of five engineers and overseeing data and AI capabilities
- Developing team capability and raising performance across the engineering organization
- Balancing speed, commercial value, platform health, technical debt, and risk in decision-making
- Communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
The current tech stack includes Python/Django and Postgres for the core application, Vue.js on the frontend, AWS infrastructure, CircleCI for continuous deployment, and Datadog and Sentry for monitoring.
The role is remote-first with a distributed UK-based Product and Engineering team, though regular in-person time with the CEO, leadership team, and wider business in London is expected.
Requirements:
- Senior technology leadership experience in smaller, growing businesses (start-ups, scale-ups, or smaller technology companies)
- Strong software engineering background with established experience leading technology at a senior level
- Responsibility spanning beyond Engineering alone (technical direction, delivery, product, team capability, business-aligned decisions)
- Strong technical judgement across software architecture, cloud platforms, APIs, and integrations
- Experience owning engineering delivery end-to-end
- Coding depth sufficient to stay close to technology and contribute when useful
- Strong product judgement and experience working closely with or overseeing product management
- Experience creating frameworks, standards, and clear technical ownership
- Track record of developing engineers and raising capability in small teams
- Ability to challenge constructively, listen well, and make clear decisions when priorities compete
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical teams
- Experience in SaaS, fintech, insurtech, proptech, or technology-enabled service businesses is useful but not essential
