Abode Money is an AI-powered financial platform helping homeowners save money on property taxes, insurance, mortgages, and related home ownership costs. The company has raised $23M from top-tier investors including Sequoia, Permanent Capital, and Drive Capital, and is targeting the 80M+ homeowners in the US who collectively overpay billions annually on property taxes due to an opaque, fragmented appeals process.
As Chief Operating Officer, you will serve as the CEO's operational partner, owning the end-to-end vision for how Abode runs. This is a founding-level seat with unusually broad scope: you will own not just operations infrastructure but also the property tax product itself, building both the systems and the team from the ground up.
Key responsibilities include:
• Building and leading the operations team from scratch—hiring ops managers, developing a contractor network of 20+, and establishing the cadence and culture where people own outcomes rather than tasks.
• Leading market launches across new states and counties, navigating regulatory complexity, and building repeatable playbooks that accelerate each subsequent launch.
• Owning all operational metrics and decisions: cost per appeal, filing accuracy, cycle time, win rate, throughput, and quality. You drive the unit economics and make the calls on where to spend, automate, or exit.
• Designing systems to replace manual work by partnering with engineering, translating customer pain and contractor workflows into clear product requirements.
• Operating hands-on at this stage—you will file appeals, solve edge cases, and get directly involved in execution alongside your team.
The role demands someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves fast without waiting for permission, and has a track record of building (not just running) operations at early-stage companies. You will be in-person in Austin 4 days per week.
Requirements:
• 10+ years in operations, consulting, banking, product, or early-stage startups, with demonstrated operational leadership at a seed or Series A company.
• 5+ years managing and developing people, with a proven track record of hiring and building teams.
• Based in Austin or willing to relocate; in-person 4 days per week.
• Bias toward action, low ego, high accountability, and comfort with ambiguity and fast-paced environments.
