Heron is a Series A AI company that automates document processing for financial services, banks, and specialty finance companies. The company processes tens of thousands of documents and over 20 million bank transactions daily, with over 190 customers and $13M+ in annual recurring revenue. As Chief of Staff, you will work directly with the CEO to help run the company. You'll be part of Business Operations, working across finance, people operations, business reviews, and quarterly planning. This role combines ongoing operational responsibilities with strategic projects. Key responsibilities include: - Finance: collaborate with the finance team on budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting. Understand revenue, costs, and spending to help teams make informed decisions. - People Operations: support hiring plans, onboarding, and employee/manager processes. - Business Reviews: compile company and team metrics, analyze changes, help leadership identify issues and agree on next steps, and follow up on decisions. - Quarterly Planning: help teams set priorities, agree on goals, and plan resources and budgets. Track progress and resolve competing priorities. - Company and Customer Analysis: answer questions about business performance and improvement opportunities. - Internal Processes: improve how work gets done across the company and maintain reliable processes. - Strategic Projects: lead initiatives from start to finish, such as entering new markets or launching business lines. The role expects you to learn quickly, enjoy variety, and handle both analytical work and practical operational details. You'll see how a company runs day-to-day and help improve it. Some work changes week to week; other responsibilities are ongoing. As you learn the business, you can take on more responsibility and help shape how Heron operates. Heron is a small, committed team with a flat structure based in New York and London. The team has experience from Facebook, Spotify, Revolut, and startups globally. Team members come from five continents. Requirements: - 2–4 years of experience in analytical work such as consulting, banking, or strategy/operations roles at startups - Ability to break down complex problems into manageable parts and use data to support decisions - Organized and reliable: track deadlines, follow through on decisions, ensure recurring work is done well - Clear communicator: explain thinking to engineers, customers, and the board in conversations, memos, and presentations - Comfortable with data: use spreadsheets and SQL; prefer to get numbers yourself - Keen to use AI: want to use AI regularly to automate work and find answers faster - Able to form and explain views supported by evidence - Trustworthy with sensitive information: good judgment and discretion with confidential financial, employee, and company data - Resourceful: find ways to solve problems, whether by doing work manually or trying different approaches - Persistent: keep looking for the right answer or person, willing to put in extra effort - Willing to take initiative: spot opportunities and take responsibility without waiting to be asked - Ready to work quickly with others: move fast, make decisions together, help teammates succeed Note: If your background differs from the above, you're encouraged to apply and explain why you'd be a good fit.
