Pavilion is seeking a Chief Marketing Officer to lead the marketing function and drive growth across new membership bookings, renewals, and new products. The CMO will oversee product marketing, lifecycle marketing, performance marketing, digital and web experience (brand & content), and sales enablement, including the team responsible for direct outreach and final-stage conversion.
Pavilion serves GTM (go-to-market) professionals globally through membership, education, events, and community. The primary commercial measure is bookings: cash a customer pays after discounts, whether for new membership or renewal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy and Leadership: Translate business goals into marketing priorities, initiatives, and metrics. Hold executive peers accountable for agreed goals and commitments. Build team confidence through clear direction, realistic workloads, and recognition. Develop team leaders across product marketing, lifecycle, performance marketing, and sales enablement. Establish regular performance reviews with leadership, Finance, and RevOps. Demonstrate a player-coach mentality, jumping into execution to support a lean team as needed.
Growth Oversight: Own the marketing plan and budget against agreed targets with clear contributions from new acquisition, renewals, and B2B efforts. Lead performance marketing across paid media, SEO, and event acquisition. Allocate spend based on cash bookings, acquisition cost, retention, and payback. Test new channels to reach GTM professionals globally with clear expansion criteria.
AI and Marketing Operations: Set priorities for AI agents and automated workflows in content production, segmentation, reporting, and lead scoring. Bring specific examples of tools deployed and measurable effects on cost, output, or performance. Equip the team to use these tools responsibly with clear ownership and review of customer-facing work.
Lifecycle Marketing: Lead programs that improve activation, engagement, upgrades, and renewal bookings using member behavior and cohort performance. Partner with MemberSuccess and Program Managers on onboarding, nurture, and milestone communications. Build referral, upgrade, and win-back programs. Own lead nurture series and conversion-focused lifecycle flows.
Product Marketing: Lead Product Marketing across B2C and B2B offerings, defining audiences, positioning, and reasons to buy or renew. Clarify relationships between membership, education, events, and team solutions. Develop go-to-market plans for courses sold standalone and as part of membership. Own B2B marketing strategy for Learn courses sold in bulk.
Sales Enablement and Conversion: Lead the sales enablement team responsible for direct follow-up with prospective members in final decision stages. Set lead prioritization, follow-up standards, and handoffs between marketing and member-facing teams. Manage playbooks and responses for consistency and quality control. Track conversion to paid bookings and use findings to improve campaigns.
Brand and Communications: Lead Pavilion's brand presence across web, social, events, and content with consistent messaging. Oversee thought leadership, PR, and storytelling grounded in member outcomes. Establish a clear role for community content and executive thought leadership within the broader marketing strategy.
SUCCESS METRICS:
First 90 Days: Assess bookings performance across acquisition, renewals, course-led purchases, and B2B. Agree bookings targets and business priorities with leadership and Finance. Establish team responsibilities and working rhythm. Begin practical AI and process improvements with defined success measures.
First Year: Delivery against agreed bookings targets with clear reporting on new memberships and renewals. Improved acquisition efficiency and conversion to paid membership. Stronger renewal performance attributed to Lifecycle channels. Clear positioning across Pavilion's offerings with consistent messaging. A team with stronger confidence, clear ownership, and ability to recommend strategy. Measurable returns from AI tools and workflow improvements.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Senior marketing leadership experience with responsibility for strategy, budgets, and commercial results, including meaningful experience in membership, community, or subscription businesses
- A record of setting priorities with executive leadership, challenging assumptions constructively, and securing decisions and resources needed to deliver against goals
- Experience building team confidence and developing managers, with concrete examples of changes in team performance and ways of working
- Demonstrated performance marketing expertise, including direct experience building and running paid, SEO, or other acquisition programs and managing agencies or contractors
- Proven success in product marketing and lifecycle marketing, including positioning, launch planning, and renewal programs
- Strong content and communications judgment; fluency in marketing analytics, cash bookings, and budget management
- Practical experience building or deploying AI agents and marketing workflows, with ability to explain tools used and their measurable impact
- Preferred: Familiarity with event marketing and community storytelling in a global business serving GTM professionals
