Outpost is an orbital logistics company building reusable Earth-return vehicles that enable in-space manufacturing, on-orbit warehousing, and rapid global delivery through space. The CarryAll vehicle family returns payloads from 200 kg to 10 metric tons, lands within 10 meters of target, and is refurbished and relaunched. Applications span national security, commercial cargo, R&D payloads, and critical aid delivery to remote areas.
As Chief Engineer, Vehicle, you will own the complete vision, execution, and culture of Outpost's vehicle portfolio, including the CarryAll orbital return vehicle and the Airdrop atmospheric precision delivery system. You report to the CTO and work closely with the VP of Engineering for Product, VP of Engineering for Production, and VP of Engineering for Software.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full accountability for schedule, technical performance, and budget across both vehicle programs; own scope decisions, risk management, and make/buy trade-offs
- Hire, develop, and manage engineering leaders across all vehicle disciplines; establish standards for technical excellence, ownership, and execution pace
- Set architectural direction for performance, schedule, and cost across the vehicle portfolio
- Build processes and culture that define how Outpost designs, builds, tests, and operates vehicles at scale
- Serve as the top day-to-day technical authority, making key decisions that shape vehicle development
- Drive both programs toward operational status at scale with strong momentum and validated customer demand
