Salary: USD 191,000 - 253,000 / annual
Anduril Industries is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the technical development of maritime autonomous systems from concept through delivery. This is a strategic leadership role within the Maritime Division, responsible for overseeing the design, prototyping, capability verification, and deployment of advanced maritime autonomous weapon systems.
You will lead cross-functional teams spanning product, engineering, business development, logistics, and operations. Key responsibilities include managing initial system design and architecture development, defining requirements, conducting systems engineering and trade analyses, and ensuring designs align with Department of Defense capability gaps and warfighter needs. You will work closely with Anduril's Strategy team and strategic customer partners to develop designs with full traceability to customer inputs and program office technical decisions.
Your role requires balancing innovation with practical execution across multiple parallel initiatives. You will oversee systems engineering activities including subsystem architecture, requirements definition, trade studies, optimization, risk management, and cost/schedule/performance analysis. Coordination with manufacturing and supply chain teams is essential to embed design-for-manufacturing principles early and support full-rate production scaling. You will define key capabilities, milestones, and demonstrations to enable continuous autonomous systems development and maturation.
The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of technical leadership and systems engineering experience on defense systems or weapon programs, with demonstrated expertise in multi-domain unmanned and autonomous weapon system development. You should have proven engineering management capability, strong personnel leadership qualities, and experience leading weapon/defense system programs from initial concept through full development, testing, qualification, and rate manufacture. Experience with mission-critical DOD systems, autonomous system architecture, and building cross-functional teams around a shared vision is highly valued.
This role requires an active U.S. Secret security clearance and approximately 25% travel to customer and test sites.
