Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the architecture and delivery of a vehicle-to-mission interface layer that transforms military vehicles into software-defined mission systems. This role owns the end-to-end architecture of a platform that abstracts power, data, networking, and control into a common environment for mission kits, enabling plug-and-play integration of advanced capabilities.
Key responsibilities include architecting a compute module for vehicle translation, designing a firmware layer for vehicle communications, and building a software layer for mission kit integration. You will define standardized APIs, data models, and interface control documents that abstract vehicle systems into reusable mission services. The role requires designing managed power and compute systems, building the plug-and-play mission kit framework, and leading cross-functional engineering execution from concept through production across hardware and software teams.
You will partner with OEMs, mission partners, and customers to drive platform adoption and deployment, serving as the primary engineering contact for external and internal stakeholders. You will interface directly with senior leadership and represent the business in engineering decision-making within the scope of product engineering.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, computer science, or related field; 15+ years of experience in complex system architecture and integration; and 5+ years leading multi-disciplined teams developing software-enabled hardware products. You must have expertise in vehicle electrical and power systems (12-28V architecture), embedded systems, ruggedized compute platforms, and safety-critical frameworks including hazard analysis and safety case development. Proven ability to design systems with fault isolation, fail-safe behavior, and non-interference is essential. Travel up to 25% of the time is required.
Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering; strong technical and analytical skills; experience with JIRA and Confluence; exposure to land-based systems with Department of War experience; and an Active Secret Clearance or higher.
