Salary: USD 250,000 - 300,000 / annual

Skyryse is developing SkyOS, a fly-by-wire flight control system designed to simplify aircraft management during standard operations, adverse weather, and emergencies. The Chief Engineer role is the senior technical authority for this safety-critical system, accountable for taking the program from concept through FAA certification and deployment on the Robinson R66 helicopter. You will own the architectural vision and execution of the fly-by-wire system. This includes setting the technical roadmap, coordinating engineering activity across software, hardware, systems, and flight operations, resolving design trade-offs, and maintaining unwavering focus on safety, performance, and regulatory compliance. You will report directly to the CEO, VP of Engineering, and VP of Certification, serving as the primary technical decision-maker and point of contact for internal leadership, suppliers, and regulators. Key responsibilities include: leading technical project planning (scope, scheduling, resource allocation, dependency management); coordinating cross-functional execution across all engineering disciplines; identifying and mitigating technical risks with clear escalation; developing and maintaining the fly-by-wire architectural vision; eliciting and documenting system requirements; making and defending data-informed design decisions when requirements conflict; reviewing technical documentation and test plans; partnering with certification organizations to ensure design evidence supports the certification basis; and serving as the primary technical interface with internal and external stakeholders. Required: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent); 10+ years in full-cycle engineering roles; hands-on experience designing fly-by-wire flight control systems; component-level qualification experience for aerospace; and knowledge of aviation certification requirements and evidence standards. Preferred: Master's or PhD in engineering; 15+ years experience; rotorcraft design and verification background; familiarity with ARP4754A, ARP4761, DO-178C, DO-254, and 14 CFR Part 27; and complex embedded systems or avionics integration experience.
