PhysicsX is a deep-tech company building AI-driven simulation software for engineering and manufacturing across aerospace, defense, materials, energy, semiconductors, and automotive. We're seeking a CFD Multiphase & DEM Engineer to join our delivery team, working 2–3 days per week from our central London office with flexibility for customer engagement globally. You will independently develop complex multi-physics simulation models spanning single-phase, multiphase, and coupled CFD-DEM regimes. Your responsibilities include building and validating DEM models for granular and particle-laden systems (fluidised beds, pneumatic conveying, mills, aerosols, suspensions, coating processes), creating parametric CAD models with automated simulation pipelines for design optimization and design-of-experiments studies, and partnering directly with customers to solve advanced engineering challenges through simulation and AI solutions. You'll work at the intersection of CAE and data science, generating high-quality simulation datasets for training machine learning and deep learning surrogate models using smart sampling strategies. You'll leverage our Flux cloud platform and on-premise HPC resources to accelerate high-fidelity modelling, continuously improve engineering best practices, mentor junior colleagues, and travel globally (2–3 weeks per quarter) to work on-site with customers. Required expertise: deep knowledge of multiphase CFD (VOF, Euler–Euler, Euler–Lagrange, mixture models), DEM modelling (EDEM, Rocky, LIGGGHTS), coupled CFD–DEM workflows, heat and mass transfer modelling, and proficiency in Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM, or Fluent. You should hold an MEng, MSc, or PhD in mechanical, chemical, or process engineering; be skilled in Python scripting and simulation automation; understand DoE and surrogate modelling; and ideally have experience with parametric CAD (NX or CATIA). Strong communication with technical and non-technical audiences is essential.
