Salary: USD 85,000 - 125,000 / annual
Pyka is building autonomous electric aircraft for cargo transport and crop protection, with FAA regulatory approvals and operations across four continents. The company designs and manufactures proprietary flight control software, avionics, motors, controllers, batteries, and composite airframes.
As Certification and Airworthiness Specialist, you will own regulatory compliance and certification strategy for Pyka's autonomous aircraft fleet. You will author and maintain UAS Flight Manuals (UFM) and Unmanned Maintenance Manuals (UMM), ensuring that physical fleet hardware and software strictly align with regulatory filings. You will drive domestic certification efforts under FAA regulations (44807, Part 11/135/137) and pursue foreign airworthiness approvals from authorities including ANAC and Transport Canada. You will secure Certificates of Authorization (COAs), Experimental Airworthiness Certification Packages, and N-number registrations while managing aircraft conformity documentation and preparing for civil aviation authority site audits.
This role requires independent judgment to evaluate evolving hardware, software, and technical specifications against complex legal frameworks, determine licensing requirements, and adapt compliance strategies. You will draft, submit, and track administrative applications, permits, and official filings within external agency portals and regulatory databases. Cross-functional collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and leadership teams is essential to keep certification efforts aligned with product development.
The role is fully remote (US-based) with occasional travel to headquarters as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree (engineering or aerospace-related field preferred)
- Familiarity with aircraft regulatory processes (UAS Exemptions, Part 21, Part 23, etc.)
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration, time management, and prioritization skills
- Ability to evaluate evolving hardware, software, and technical specifications against complex legal frameworks to determine licensing requirements and adapt compliance strategies independently
- Proficiency in drafting, submitting, and tracking administrative applications, permits, and official filings within external agency portals and regulatory databases
- Ability to travel for on-site headquarters visits as needed
PREFERRED:
- 2+ years experience in the Civil Aviation Industry
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, WebManuals, or other technical writing software
- Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence, Slack, Google Suite
- Experience in both large company and startup environments
