Fuse is building fusion energy technology with a mission to accelerate the world's transition to clean energy. This Capture & Proposal Writer role is central to growing revenue through government and commercial contracts.
You will lead proposal and capture strategy from initial teaming decisions through final submission. This includes competitive analysis, win-theme development, and coordinating proposal responses to government solicitations (RFPs, RFIs, RFQs, BAAs, OTAs). You'll write and edit technical, management, and past-performance proposal volumes while ensuring compliance, clarity, and persuasiveness.
Core responsibilities span capture strategy, proposal development and coordination, content creation, and stakeholder management. You'll translate complex fusion technology into clear narratives and go-to-market content for diverse audiences—from engineers to government evaluators. You'll develop and maintain proposal templates, compliance matrices, and reusable content libraries. You'll also create technical documentation and style guides, identifying and resolving gaps in existing materials.
The role requires understanding Fuse's value proposition deeply and communicating it across internal and external stakeholders. You'll work cross-functionally with engineering, business development, contracts, and leadership, managing timelines and coordinating inputs from subject-matter experts. Success means operating effectively in a fast-moving, unstructured startup environment while maintaining high standards for quality and detail.
Minimum qualifications: 5+ years in business, government, or government contracting with direct proposal writing or management experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to distill complex ideas, and comfort in deadline-driven environments are essential. You must be a self-starter who can rapidly find information and produce large, high-quality documents on short timelines.
Preferred: 6+ years in capture or government contracting; familiarity with traditional and non-traditional contracting vehicles; significant RFP/RFI/RFQ/BAA/OTA experience; startup or fast-scaling company experience; active security clearance.
This is an in-office role (Washington, DC or San Leandro, CA) requiring relocation if not local. Extended hours and weekend work may be required. The role may require business travel to other Fuse facilities and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance. ITAR requirements apply: you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible to obtain required State Department authorizations.
