Salary: USD 159,000 - 184,000 / annual

Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks a Camera Test Engineer II to join its Mountain View, CA team on a hybrid basis (3 days/week on-site). You will own the execution of test campaigns to characterize and space-qualify advanced camera subsystems for next-generation infrared remote sensing instruments, bridging camera system design and flight hardware verification. Key responsibilities include: translating camera system-level requirements into detailed test procedures and developing Python-based automated test scripts for instrument control, data logging, and efficient test suite execution. You will conduct electro-optical performance testing of VSWIR and IR cameras, measuring critical metrics such as dark current, quantum efficiency, noise equivalent differential temperature, non-uniformity correction, bad pixel mapping, and spectral filter throughput. You will design, build, and maintain electrical and optical ground support equipment (EGSE/OGSE), including integration of test sources like blackbodies and integrating spheres. You will lead camera-level testing and characterization in partnership with environmental test teams for thermal environmental stress screening, thermal vacuum, radiation, and vibration test campaigns. Responsibilities also include rigorous post-processing of test data, identifying performance anomalies, and participating in interdisciplinary root-cause analysis for camera or sensor failures. You will collaborate closely with Camera Systems Engineers and Optical Test Engineers to ensure comprehensive verification of the camera subsystem. Required qualifications: Ph.D. with experience in detectors, imaging systems, or infrared remote sensing instruments in a multi-disciplinary environment; or M.S. with 3+ years industry experience; or B.S. with 5+ years industry experience. Strong programming skills in Python for instrument automation, hardware interfacing, and scientific data analysis (NumPy, SciPy). Proven experience with precision electrical and optical metrology test hardware. Experience performing statistical data analysis, post-processing, and test report generation for optical component and detector/camera system performance. Excellent communication, presentation, and organization skills. Nice-to-have skills include basic CAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred) for designing test fixtures, experience operating thermal ovens and TVAC chambers, and cleanroom environment experience.
