OpenAI's Finance Platform & Technology team is seeking a Business Systems Lead for Procure-to-Pay to design, build, and operate the integrations and applications powering the company's procurement workflows. This is a hands-on engineering role where you will translate business needs into secure, scalable software, APIs, data flows, and automation across Oracle Fusion, Zip, and connected platforms.
You will own the technical roadmap for procurement capabilities, building the future of buying at OpenAI using OpenAI's own technology. Your responsibilities include designing and building integrations across Oracle Fusion, Zip, and connected systems using APIs, events, messaging, and batch interfaces; creating first-party procurement applications and backend services that simplify intake, approvals, transaction visibility, and exception resolution; writing maintainable code with version control, code review, automated tests, and repeatable deployment practices; defining data contracts, mappings, and authoritative data ownership to ensure accuracy and traceability; engineering reliable processing through validation, idempotency, retries, monitoring, alerting, and reconciliation; building and evaluating AI-enabled workflows using OpenAI technology with appropriate access controls and audit trails; making targeted Oracle Fusion and Zip configuration changes in partnership with Procurement and AP teams; owning technical testing and release readiness including integration tests and staged rollout; and owning production health, incident resolution, and financial controls.
The role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week. You will partner with Procurement, Accounting, Tax, Legal, Security, Data, and Engineering teams to modernize workflows through thoughtful platform design and reliable integrations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of experience in enterprise integrations, software engineering, or business systems engineering with substantial hands-on responsibility for building and operating production solutions
- Ability to personally write, review, test, and debug production code in Python or TypeScript; SQL proficiency for data investigation and reconciliation
- Hands-on experience integrating with Oracle Fusion and understanding Procurement and Payables transaction flows through APIs, data models, and interfaces
- Experience designing and shipping APIs, services, or internal applications with ability to explain implementation choices and production results
- Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, authentication/authorization, data modeling, and event-driven or message-based integration patterns
- Experience building and operating integrations using OIC, Workato, or comparable platforms; ability to choose between custom code, native APIs, or integration platforms
- Production troubleshooting and service reliability experience including observability, retries, reconciliation, incident response, and safe recovery
- Understanding of the P2P lifecycle and how approvals, supplier data, purchase orders, receiving, matching, invoices, and payments affect downstream accounting and controls
- Ability to make targeted functional configuration changes and validate business impact while partnering with specialists
- Secure engineering and financial-control practices including least-privilege access, segregation of duties, and auditable transaction histories
- Clear communication with cross-functional teams (Procurement, AP, Accounting, Risk, Engineering); ability to turn ambiguous needs into working software
- Curiosity about building and evaluating AI-enabled applications
- Experience with Zip is a plus
