Metabase is seeking a Business Operations Manager to join its Finance & Analytics team. This role bridges analytical strategy and operational execution, leading a portfolio of projects that shape how the company understands its business performance while owning a traditional finance operations domain.
You will lead analytical projects focused on establishing authoritative business metrics and investigating drivers of change. Examples include adapting ARR definitions as the business model evolves, evaluating sales and marketing funnel health, and finding relationships between product initiatives and customer expansion or churn. Simultaneously, you'll own a finance domain such as Accounting or Tax, combining operational work, managing external specialists, and ensuring overall operational health.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading cross-functional analytical projects that change how the organization understands its business
- Owning and automating workflows in your finance domain to minimize manual effort and maximize compliance reliability
- Building systems and processes that treat finance operations similarly to analytical systems: defined inputs transformed via logic to produce targeted outcomes
- Managing external vendors and specialists, building strong relationships and holding them accountable
- Tackling operational problems as they arise through cross-functional collaboration
Metabase is a fully distributed, remote-first company with 50% of its team outside the US. The company provides an open-source business intelligence platform used by tens of thousands of companies, recently raised a $30M Series B, and emphasizes asynchronous work, autonomy, and long-term value creation.
Requirements:
- 3–5 years of experience, preferably in a high-growth startup
- Strong quantitative undergraduate degree (MBA is a nice-to-have)
- Comfort with numbers across analytical domains: financial modeling, statistical analysis, vendor methodology review, data transformation
- SQL experience strongly preferred; analytics engineering experience is a nice-to-have
- Ability to learn unfamiliar domains quickly (e.g., accounting principles) and apply them to day-to-day problems
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
- Experience managing vendors and building accountability
- Familiarity with AI tools and their limitations
- Systems thinking: understanding how pieces fit together, building reliable processes, automating repetitive work
- Low-ego attitude; willingness to tackle tasks of any size
- Based in the US, Canada, or UK
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with accounting principles or coursework
