Handshake is a career platform connecting 25 million job seekers with 1 million+ employers and 1,600 educational institutions. The company recently launched Handshake AI, a rapidly growing AI data business working with frontier AI labs and Fortune 500 partners, now operating at ~$1B run rate.
As a Government Business Development Representative, you will expand Handshake's footprint within federal and state & local government organizations. You'll identify opportunities, build relationships with key decision-makers (including Chief Human Capital Officers and HR managers), and drive engagement across complex organizational structures.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and influencing relationships with decision-makers across federal and state & local departments
- Navigating complex government organizational structures and internal influence dynamics
- Understanding government budgets, funding cycles, and contracting processes
- Communicating Handshake's value in government-appropriate language and context
- Tailoring messaging to align with each entity's unique mission and priorities
- Promoting the platform's support for early-career talent recruitment aligned with federal and state hiring needs
- Developing early-stage pipeline and informing go-to-market strategy alongside account executives
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business, government relations, or related field; 1+ years in business development or account management (preferably government sector); experience navigating large, complex organizations; ability to manage long sales cycles and influence multiple stakeholders; strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable experience includes familiarity with government terminology and recruitment processes, knowledge of recruitment technologies and talent platforms, proficiency with AI tools, awareness of federal/state workforce trends, and understanding of government budgets and contracting.
