This is an origination-focused Business Development Manager role reporting to the Director of Corporate Development. You will be responsible for identifying attractive vertical market software businesses, opening conversations with founders and owners, and building trusted relationships that develop into proprietary acquisition opportunities over time. Unlike traditional software sales, success is measured by expanding Banyan's market coverage, earning the attention and trust of entrepreneurs, and creating a high-quality pipeline of acquisition candidates. You will have front-row access to founders, CEOs, and industry leaders across specialized markets. Key responsibilities include: - Originating proprietary acquisition opportunities by identifying and engaging vertical market software companies aligned with Banyan's investment criteria - Developing detailed market maps and target lists across assigned verticals - Designing and executing multi-channel outreach through phone, email, LinkedIn, industry events, conferences, and referral networks - Initiating credible conversations with founders, owners, and senior decision-makers about their businesses and potential partnership with Banyan - Building long-duration trusted relationships with prospective acquisition targets, including owners years away from considering a transaction - Qualifying opportunities by understanding product, market position, ownership, growth profile, and alignment with Banyan's strategy - Creating and managing structured nurture programs that keep Banyan relevant to founders - Partnering closely with M&A Leaders and Portfolio Leadership to prioritize targets, share market intelligence, and transition qualified opportunities into deeper acquisition discussions This role offers the opportunity to move away from traditional private equity models toward a long-term buy-and-hold acquirer focused on sustainable growth.
