OpenAI's Compute Strategy team is responsible for securing and scaling the core resources that power research and products. This role focuses on sourcing opportunities, structuring partnerships, and negotiating high-value agreements across OpenAI's infrastructure ecosystem. You will own partnership opportunities end-to-end—from concept formation and sourcing through evaluation, diligence, internal approval, negotiation, close, and post-close execution. Focus areas include energy and power procurement, land and real estate acquisition, colocation partnerships, cloud service provider relationships, semiconductor supply chain, fiber and equipment sourcing, and infrastructure financing solutions. Key responsibilities include leading negotiations for complex commercial agreements that balance cost, speed, and long-term scalability; building and managing relationships with senior leaders across utilities, real estate developers, colocation providers, cloud providers, semiconductor suppliers, and financial institutions; developing market intelligence to inform OpenAI's infrastructure roadmap; coordinating across engineering, legal, finance, treasury, and operations teams; representing OpenAI in external forums and industry working groups; and operationalizing governance for signed agreements to track delivery, risks, economics, and business impact. Ideal candidates bring 8+ years of experience in business development, strategic partnerships, private equity, corporate development, project development, or infrastructure finance, with demonstrated expertise in at least one focus area. You should have a track record of closing complex, high-value commercial agreements, exceptional negotiation and relationship management skills, strong analytical abilities to assess market opportunities and model deal structures, and comfort navigating ambiguity in a fast-moving environment. A JD, MBA, or equivalent experience is preferred but not required.
