Rocket Lab is seeking a Business Development Director, Satellites to drive growth in the satellite market, with a primary focus on national security opportunities. Based at headquarters in Long Beach, CA, you will lead business development initiatives focused on satellite solutions for defense applications, develop and execute capture strategies for large defense and civil space contracts with government agencies and prime contractors, and engage with key customer stakeholders to build long-term relationships.
Key responsibilities include identifying and engaging potential clients, developing strategic partnerships, and leading efforts to secure contracts that expand market share. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to prepare compelling proposals, monitor industry trends and competitor activities, and grow existing business opportunities with current customers. The role involves leading and participating in proposal activities including technical, management, cost, and schedule content generation. You will represent Rocket Lab at industry conferences and customer meetings, develop strong relationships across all business levels, and travel as needed (up to 50% domestic and international).
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in engineering or technical discipline, 12+ years of experience in business development, program management, or systems engineering within aerospace, in-depth knowledge of government acquisition processes and national security landscape, proven track record of securing large contracts (>$20M), and an active TS/SCI security clearance. Nice-to-have qualifications include a master's degree in aerospace engineering or business, specialization in US government business development with deep experience selling to national security agencies (Space Force, NRO, SDA) or civil space (NASA, NOAA), demonstrable success in satellite systems/payloads/platforms, extensive awareness of current US Government programs, excellent communication skills, experience leading geographically dispersed teams, proficiency in Microsoft Suite and MS Project, and CRM software experience.
